Laura Kasinof is a former writing mentor at the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies. She works mainly with the Yemen Peace Forum (YPF), helping develop the writing and communication skills of Yemeni youth and civil society activists.
Laura is an award-winning freelance journalist and former Yemen correspondent for the New York Times. She has also written for the Guardian, Harper’s, the Atlantic, Foreign Policy, Slate and many more publications.
She is also the author of Don’t Be Afraid of the Bullets: An Accidental War Correspondent in Yemen, a memoir of her time reporting in Yemen during the political revolt and upheaval of 2011. In 2018, she received a citation from the Overseas Press Club for best magazine reporting on an international story for a feature article about the life of a Syrian refugee family in Berlin.
Previously, Laura had worked as a research consultant on Yemen for Chatham House, and she’s spoken about Yemeni affairs at the Atlantic Council, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and New America.
