The Sana’a Center is seeking to expand its network of non-resident fellows in an effort to further explore relations and ties between Yemen and the global community. At this time, we are particularly looking for applicants with a special interest in Russia, Latin America, the Horn of Africa or Malaysia. Non-resident fellowships with the Sana’a Center are uniquely designed positions for experts on specific countries or topics. Priority will be given to Yemenis, but non-Yemenis with an exceptional interest in and commitment to Yemen are encouraged to apply.
A successful non-resident candidate is expected to meet the following criteria:
- Have extensive expertise in the relations and ties between Yemen and an above-named country or region, with preference given to residents of said country or region.
- Must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate-level university program; priority will be given to social science majors.
- Must be strongly committed to independent research ethics and methods.
- Priority will be given to candidates who speak the local language/s of the country or region in which they specialize.
A successful non-resident candidate is expected to deliver the following:
- Produce research and analysis on Yemen-related issues, particularly the policies and relations of their specific country or region toward Yemen.
- Participate in the Sana’a Center’s larger research projects and programs, contributing to their design and production.
- Act as a Sana’a Center representative and build the Center’s presence and partnerships in their regions.
In return, a non-resident fellow will receive:
- Membership in a think tank with an international reputation for independent research and analysis of Yemen and the surrounding region.
- Regular interaction with leading Yemeni and international scholars, analysts and researchers focused on Yemen and the region.
- A platform for the non-resident fellow on the Sana’a Center’s website and newsletter for their original work publications, and at speaking engagements, conferences, meetings and media appearances.
- Exposure to the Sana’a Center’s extensive networks inside and outside Yemen.
- Priority in paid consultancies and research opportunities within the Sana’a Center.
The Non-Resident Fellowship position is unpaid and does not entail automatic financial remuneration. However, fellows are paid for their writing and analyses per piece in case-by-case agreements.
