Dr. Ulrike Stohrer is a social anthropologist specializing in the ethnography of Yemen, ritual performance, and customary law (‘urf). She received her PhD. from the University of Frankfurt/Main, where she subsequently taught and conducted extensive ethnographic fieldwork in the highlands of Yemen for over two decades. Her research focuses on the intersection of performative genres, ethnomusicology, and local stability. Complementing her academic framework, she has classical training in vocal performance and dance, giving her a deep, embodied understanding of choreography, somatic movement, and ritual kinetics. She has collaborated with institutions such as CARPO and is currently working with international stakeholders on cultural heritage safeguarding and on bottom-up peacebuilding frameworks in the Middle East.
