Wameedh Shakir is a former director of gender studies at the Sanaa Center for Strategic Studies, and has more than a decade of field and policy experience related to gender, human rights and social economic-development in Yemen.
Much of her work and research has focused on violence against women and children, legal protections, how gender impacts economic empowerment, community development and equal participation, as well as NGO/CBO capacity building and humanitarian work. Shakir has worked on gender and women’s rights with Oxfam since 2003, as well as with UNICEF, the Women’s Economic Empowerment Association, and as a regional advisor for the Status of Women in the Middle East and North Africa.
Shakir holds a master of arts in international development and gender perspective and a bachelor of arts in political science
