Have Political Parties in Yemen Ended? A Discussion with Abdulrazaq Al Hijri

Why has the role of Yemeni political parties in public affairs decrease while armed groups became more powerful? What is the role that political parties have played in resolving the conflict in Yemen? What will be the future of the country if political parties disappear?

Also, how can the experience of the Islah Party over the course of the war, including the complications it has caused inside Yemen and in the region, be assessed? Is the party still united? Might there be an agreement between the Islah and the Houthis? What is the party’s stance on the negotiations between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis?

These questions will be answered by Abdulrazaq Al Hijri, a member of Islah Party’s Supreme Commission, the head of its parliamentary bloc, and the party’s acting Secretary-General during the YIF 2023 Podcast. The episodes of this podcast were recorded on the sidelines of the second Yemen International Forum, an event organized by the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies. The Forum was attended by more than 250 participants from Yemen and abroad, including representatives of the Yemeni government, the various influential political actors, activists, representatives of civil society, academics, and international mediators and diplomats, all of whom came together to discuss the course of the conflict.
