Exploring Alternative Methodologies for Peace in Yemen

August 2023 — May 2024

About the program

This project aims to create sustainable changes in local decision-making processes and establish synergies between local, national, and international peace processes. It focused on four governorates: Al-Mahra, Hadramawt, Marib, and Shabwa. At the core of the project were governorate-level Strategic Thinking Groups, which brought together diverse Yemeni interlocutors with varied professional, social, and political backgrounds, including political parties, local authorities, civil society actors, women, youth, and tribal leaders, providing them a platform to think collectively and identify critical issues affecting peace and security in their governorates.

The project’s key approaches include:

  • Supporting the four governorate level Strategic Thinking Groups to function as safe, gender sensitive and inclusive platforms for dialogue, mediation and peacebuilding
  • Supporting awareness and advocacy initiatives led by the Strategic Thinking Groups
  • Supporting the Strategic Thinking Groups to lead on initiatives to improve local governance, service, gender equality, situation of women or peace situation
  • Strengthening engagement of the Strategic Thinking Groups with national and international peace actors
  • Increasing access of national and international actors, including the OSESGY, to grassroots insights, solutions and perspectives
