Yemen

The Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies announces immediate openings for research interns based inside Yemen. The Sana’a Center will produce policy papers regarding post-conflict state building that would provide a reliable source of information to guide the strategic policy-making related to Yemen. The interns will have the opportunity to be part of this project and work closely with the Center’s lead researchers, editing team and administration. Interns will:

  • Work closely with a lead researcher on a specific issue related to rebuilding the state in Yemen post conflict.
  • Be exposed to the process of producing policy papers.
  • Build expertise on the issue to be worked on.

Duties will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide assistance to lead researcher in conducting qualitative research on an issue pertaining to state building post conflict.
  • Conduct desk review.
  • Identify interviewees in consultation with lead researcher and help arrange for them.
  • Help lead researcher in coordinating group discussions.
  • Assist in collecting and analyzing research data.
  • Assist in drafting of research papers and policy paper and contribute to publications.
  • Work with Arabic/English editors and respond to their inquiries with regard to the final product of your research.
  • Work with designer and make sure research is to be published in a professional manner.

Qualifications:

  • Interns could be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or have a B.A. in International Relations, Conflict Studies, International Development, related fields and/or relevant experience.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English and/or Arabic (ideally both).
  • Familiarity with the situation and internal dynamics in Yemen is preferable.
  • Past experience is preferable.
