Supporting Arab Women at the Table: Women as Actors in Peace Processes (SAWT)

Past 2020 — 2023

Focusing on a new generation of women activists and women in peacebuilding, this project aimed to increase women’s inclusion and influence in political and peace processes in the MENA region and to establish post-conflict egalitarian frameworks, contributing to sustainable reconciliation and reconstruction.

The project’s highlights were new venues and mechanisms for cross-regional, intergenerational, and cross-sectoral exchange; coalition-building to support shared learning and collective action planning; and a forum for South-North exchange. The program provided unique opportunities for women from the MENA region to exchange ideas and experiences with key individuals and institutions in the EU. It also successfully engaged policymakers and stakeholders in dialogue and discussions; empowered women leaders by enhancing their skills, knowledge, and capacities; brought women’s priorities and issues to the forefront at national political fora; increased women’s access to the media; and increased the awareness of European stakeholders on priority issues for women in the MENA region.
