A Track II Initiative Rethinking Yemen’s Economy

March 2017 — ongoing

About the program

The project works to integrate policymaker agendas on local, national, regional, and international levels to reorient conflict resolution processes around economic solutions. It also provides a platform, the Development Champions Forum (DCF), for Yemeni experts and ‘Development Champions’ among women and youth to build a grassroots consensus on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, stabilization, post-conflict reconstruction, and sustainable development in Yemen. The DCF’s approach has been successfully implemented since 2017, and over the years has developed into a well-established brand.

The project is an initiative to identify Yemen’s economic, humanitarian, social and development priorities in light of the ongoing conflict in Yemen, and to prepare for the post-conflict recovery period. It aims to build consensus in crucial policy areas through engaging and promoting informed Yemeni voices in the public discourse. The aim is to ensure successful economic, humanitarian, social and development interventions in the conflict and post-conflict periods in Yemen, which will address the needs and rights of the Yemeni people and put the country on a path toward sustainable peace and development.

The “Development Champions Forum” (DCF), a platform for Yemeni experts, and the “Development Champions,” a platform for women and youth to build a grassroots consensus on peacebuilding, were launched as part of Rethinking Yemen’s Economy.

The project is implemented by the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies (SCSS) in partnership with DeepRoot Consulting and CARPO – Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient. It is funded by the European Union and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Yemen.
